Discount Tickets – Debunked!

July 21, 2013

This week the Topsfield Fair’s 100DOP question is: Are you buying discount tickets this year? If not, why?

We always get a wide variety of answers to the “Why not?” half of this question. We took the three most common comments about why people don’t buy Discounted Tickets and given explanations, solutions, etc! If your reason isn’t covered, let us know in the Comments (or on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.) and we’d be glad to talk it over with you!

  1. “I don’t know which day(s?) I’m coming.”

Well, that’s fine! You don’t have to commit to coming a certain day when you buy Discounted Presale Tickets – they are valid for any day during the 2013 Topsfield Fair! When you purchase your tickets, the only thing you are committing to is coming to the Fair at some point during the 2013 season.

  1. “I don’t want to pay a credit card/shipping fee!” or ”I don’t share my credit card information with ANYONE!”

Buying from our website or by phone is not an option for you, but you still have a couple options left.  You can stop buy our Main Gate Ticket Booth (during office hours only) starting August 19th and buy them right here! We accept cash, check and credit cards! Several stores, employers, clubs, etc. also sell our tickets at discounted prices. You can contact us for information about these places – we would be more than happy to help locate the one nearest you!

  1. “It’s not THAT much of a savings.”

We disagree!

Discounted Admission cost $9.00. General Admission (which you purchase when you arrive at the Fair) is $11.00 on October 4th and October 7th-10th, and it is $15.00 on Weekends, the Holiday, and October 11th. That’s $2.00 to $6.00 savings per ticket! Discounted Ride tickets are 11 rides (some exclusions apply) for $22.00, so that’s $2.00 per ride. If you purchase ride tickets when you arrive at the Fair, you’ll pay around the same price per ticket, but you’ll usually need 3+ tickets per ride! That’s upwards of $30.00 savings (per ride strip)! Food Vouchers (although not discounted) cost $5.50 and can be redeemed at select food vendors for $7.00 worth of food. $1.50 savings on each Food Voucher you purchase and use.

Now let’s put this into perspective with a family of four (a mother, father, and their two kids). The kids are at school during the week, so of course they come on the weekends. They decide to go on the last day of the Fair (Monday, October 14th), since the kids LOVE the Demolition Derby and Double Figure 8 Race.  They buy their discount admission tickets at $9.00 a piece – a savings of $6.00 each. That brings their total savings up to $24.00. They are planning on going to the Fair as soon as it opens, so they will have plenty of time for all of the Agricultural areas AND the Midway! They buy a single ride strip (5 rides for each kid, plus Mom or Dad can go on one!) – a savings of around $30.00. Their total savings so far? $54.00. The kids always get pizza, Mom likes Apple Crisp, and Dad’s a sucker for some delicious Funnel Cake. They can get all of this using food vouchers! With a savings of $1.50 each, this brings their total savings to $60.00!

Why can’t you do a one for all voucher? These multiple things make people feel like crazy coupon ladies and NO ONE wants that. Except the crazy coupon ladies. I’d rather pay more for the price and buy less than try to get a million different discounts

      Hi Jenn!

Thanks for your feedback! That is part of the reason we offer Food Vouchers and discounted ride tickets. We’re also featuring a free thing to do at the Fair every Friday until we open, so keep an eye out for that too!
